Mod Squad baby quilt

TGIFF and a Lovely Finish for January. Thank you Nat and Melissa and Shanna for the motivation to get this done!

My first completed project of 2013 - and a little ashamed to say it is a delayed Christmas gift - only 1 month late:) Born on December 18th, I don't think the little recipient noticed he was missing a present from his auntie, so I am not too worried about him holding a grudge!
Første fullføre prosjekt for 2013 - litt flaut at det er en forsinket julegave - bare en måned for sent... Født den 18. desember tror jeg ikke mottakeren merket at han manglet en gave på julaften fra tanta si!

Fabric - Mod Squad by Dan Stiles for Birch Fabrics (organic cotton) and Kona in Ash, Sage and Caribbean. Cut into 5" squares and layed out in a pleasing (to me) manner - 10x10 squares.
Stoffet er Mod Squad fra Birch Fabrics (økologisk bomull) og Kona i Ash, Sage og Caribbean. Skjært i 5" ruter og dandert etter personlig preferanse.

Love the designs on these prints - scooters, Minis, tube signs, guitars and mikes - but what is the green tower with the flat teal roof? I am sure it is an iconic London landmark... And the grey tower is Big Ben, right?
Syns trykkene er kule - scootere, Mini'er, tube skilt, gitarer og mikrofoner - men hva er det grønne tårnet med det flate turkise taket? Sikker på at det er noe i London...

Quilted along the seams with a serpentine stitch found on my machine. Was slow to stitch, but very kind by easing out my wrinkles for me before crossing the perpendicular lines.
Quiltet langs sømmene med et bølgende sting på maskinen - var tregt å sy, men var fint fordi det ikke gav meg rynker i kryssene.

Backed with a soft flannel from my grandma's stash with a strip of prints in the middle to reach the needed width. Bound in Kona Caribbean. I like how the quilting looks on the solid back!
Baksiden er et mykt flanellstykke fra mormor sin stash med en stripe mønstret stoff i midten for å oppnå nødvendig bredde. Lukkekant i Kona Caribbean. Jeg liker hvordan quiltestingene ser ut på flanellen!

Now - just need to wash this and get it wrapped and delivered to the sweetest little baby boy I know (besides Nat's baby MiH, who is adorable, but I don't know him...).
Da må jeg bare få vasket dette, pakket det inn og levert til den søteste lille gutten jeg kjenner.

The (would-be) one hour baby gift

Our little girl's favorite blanket is a simple square piece of flannel backed with some super soft minky. I love minky - it is so soft and the weight of it gives the blanket a nice drape.
Lillejentas favoritteppe er en enkel firkant med flanell på ene siden og minky på andre siden. Jeg elsker minky - det er så mykt og vekten av det gjør at teppet legger seg fint rundt babyen.

I will soon be an aunt and decided this baby (due in 2.5 weeks) needed a flannel/minky blanket of its own.
Snart skal jeg bli tante, så jeg fant ut at denne babyen også trengte et slikt pledd.

If you don't run out of thread in your bobbin or have to get out your seam ripper, it should come together in less than an hour...
Hvis du har nok tråd i underspolen og ikke trenger sprettekniven, skal dette kunne syes på under en time...

All it is, is a 40" square of flannel, pieced face to face with minky (leaving an opening for turning), turned right sides out and topstiched around the edge. Easy! Not the most fancy of baby gifts, but it doesn't get softer and more snuggly than this!
Det er bare en 40" kvadrat med flanell, sydd rette mot rette sammen med minky (la det være igjen åpning for å vrenge), så vrengt til rette sider ut og til slutt sydd langt kanten rundt. Enkelt! Ikke den mest fancy gaven, men det blir ikke mykere og mer kosete enn dette!

Windy City Days - finally a finish!

It feels like forever since I've had a proper finish to share, but today I am so happy to have a completed project to write about. Enough with all the WIPs already!
Det føles som en evighet siden at jeg hadde et fullført prosjekt å dele, men endelig er dagen her!

The quilt was made using the Windy Days Quilt tutorial from Moda Bake Shop. I've renamed my quilt Windy City Days, because it may go live in the windy city (Chicago). I just need to make sure the new mom approves of these colors for her baby girl.
Mønsteret fant jeg her. Mulig teppet skal sendes til Chicago (med kallenavn windy city) - må bare sjekke om den nybakte moren godkjenner fargene.

The fabrics used were a charm pack of Oh Deer! by MoMo for Moda and two charm packs of Moda Bella Solids in Snow (which is not the same as Kona Snow - it's darker). Yes, I was a lazy girl and went all pre-cuts on this one.
Teppet ble sydd av en charm pack (42 5"x5" ferdig oppkuttede biter) Oh Deer! og to charm packs med Moda Bella i farge "Snow". Ja, jeg var lat og kjøpte ferdig oppkuttede firkanter!

For the back I used up the rest of the charms - not a square to spare (yes, that is a Seinfeld quote). The colored "border" on the back are various prints from my stash. And the binding was the remaining orange fabric from the back with a little aqua added to make it all the way around.
På baksiden brukte jeg opp resten av 5"-lappene og lagde en bord av diverse stoff jeg hadde liggende. Lukkekanten ble lagd av de samme stoffene (måtte skjøte med litt turkis i det ene hjørnet).

For quilting I did wavy lines every 2" - very quick and easy. I had intended to do some free motion quilting but chickened out/got lazy. Free motion quilting makes my shoulders so tense - I need to practice a bit more before I get comfortable with it.
Jeg quiltet teppe med bølgende linjer med ca. 5 cm mellomrom - veldig enkelt og raskt.

So that was one item crossed off my 100 Day Huste to-do list. Many more to go...

Finished my Windy (City) Days baby quilt top. It is finishing at 36" square. I like a borderless quilt, but do you think 36" is too small?
Fullførte Windy (City) Days babyquilttopp. Den er ca. 1 kvadratmeter. Jeg syns det er fint med teppe uten bord, men er 1m for lite?

Sewed up September's Mystery BOM from Fat Quarter Shop. One for momma (me) and one for babygirl.

Jack Attack and Windy Days

After stating yesterday that sewing time was limited, you'd think I'd know better than to contemplate starting new projects. But, no, I guess I don't know better.

When Lynne of Lily's Quilts announced the Jack Attack quilt-along, I must have been sleeping as I read the post, because I didn't really think anything of it. But later some more posts about the quilt kept popping up and all of a sudden I thought - I WANT ONE! I NEED ONE! (I also thought "I don't really have time to make on" but that thought is being supressed.)

The quilt will be something like this - 3 enormous Union Jacks put together:

I already put the Jack Attack button on my side bar, even though I don't have the fabric for it yet! I just think the button is so cool!

I have been wanting to get some fabric from Art Gallery Fabrics because they look so awesome, but I haven't had a good excuse until now. I am going to use the Modernology collection in the chic pink colorway. Why haven't I bought fabric yet? Because I entered a giveaway for this fabric and I'm hoping to win (yeah, right!). Fingers and toes crossed until tomorrow...

And if that isn't enough, I am also just getting started on a baby quilt - made entirely of precut charm squares (instant gratification).

And the fabric I'm using is Oh Deer! by MoMo for Moda. It "somehow" ended up in my shopping cart a little while back and I think it will work well for this quilt.

So - there you have it. Two new quilts in the works. Don't know when I'll actually have time to sew them...

Snappy toddler top

I used to think I'd sew all sorts of adorable outfits for my baby, but cute and cheap clothing from H&M has proved me wrong.
Før trodde jeg at jeg skulle sy masse fine klær til babyen min, men alle de søte og billige alternativene hos H&M har motbevist dette.

Last week, however, I decided to make a little top for my girl to wear at a family gathering. I decided to follow this pattern/tutorial from Prudent Baby. Although only 7 months old, I used the pattern for 12-18 months (she's quite high on the growth chart). The fabric I used was Terrain by Kate Spain for Moda.
Men forrige uke bestemte jeg meg for å sy en liten topp for henne å ha på seg i et familieselskap. Jeg brukte dette gratismønsteret fra Prudent Baby og lagde størrelse 12-18 mnd siden lillejenta er litt stor. Stoffet er Terrain designet av Kate Spain for Moda.

The top turned out really cute. My only difficulty was in attaching the collar to the body while keeping the seam allowance of the body INSIDE the collar. After a few turns with the seam ripper it finally worked out. Happy my thread matched the fabric so nicely so all my "fixing" didn't show!

Toppen ble kjempesøt - eneste vanskelige var å holde sømmonnet på kjoledelen inni kraven da den skulle sys på. Etter et par runder med sprettekniven ble det bra og takk og lov for at trådfargen matchet så bra, for det ble en del fiksing!

All finished up it was time to try it on my little girl. And it was almost too small!!! Her chubby little arms fit just so in the opening - no room to grow:(

Da den var ferdig og skulle prøves på lillejenta var den nesten for liten!!! De lubne små armene hennes passet akkurat inn i armhullet - ikke noe vokserom:(

Well, here she is - more concerned about seeing which guests were arriving then posing for the camera. And I was lucky to find coordinating pink legging at H&M!

Og her er hun - mer opptatt av å se hvilke gjester som kom enn å posere for kamera. Og jeg var heldig som fant noen matchende rosa leggings på H&M!

I'd like to make this pattern/style again, but will for sure have to make some ammendments for this little chunker!

Jeg kan tenkte meg å sy noe i dette mønsteret/stilen igjen, men må absolutt gjøre noen justeringer for denne lille bolla!

For the tiniest baby

A friend of mine had a baby a few weeks ago, and I finally got to see the tiny little thing earlier this week. I wanted to make her something and came up with this little cuddle blanket.
Ei venninne fikk ei lite jente for et par uker siden, og jeg fikk endelig se det lille nurket tidligere i uka. Jeg hadde lyst å gi en hjemmelagd gave og fant på dette lille koseteppet.

The front is with some flannel scraps I had, the back is in minky fabric and there are lots of ribbon tags attached around the edge. Isn't it strange how babies LOVE to fiddle with tags?
Forsiden er av rester av flanellstoff jeg hadde liggende og baksiden er med minkystoff. Det er masse bånd påsydd langs kanten. Er det ikke rart hvordan babyer ELSKER å fingre på sånne lapper?

This animal fabric from Michael Miller is my favorite. I will cry when I use up the last of it!

I should mention that the alphabet fabric was from my grandma's stash (she had to retire from sewing due to arthritis). It is super soft. Wonder how old it is...

I think the finished size is about 18" square.
Teppet er vel ca. 45x45cm.

If I hadn't embroidered the name on at such an early stage, I might not have been able to give it away. I know my little one would LOVE this. So I should probably get back to sewing another...
